Meng JuanYi, Hazel (b.1999, Singapore) is currently pursuing a Bachelor in Fine Arts in painting at LASALLE College of the Arts. Throughout the years, Hazel has had a keen interest in exploring various mediums, such as realistic drawings, photography, and digital arts, to name a few. Her works are mostly inspired by nature, people, events that have shaped her, and joys and tribulations. She mainly works with oil and acrylic paintings and regularly experiments with mixed media. She previously received formal education from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) when she was in high school—graduated Diploma in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2021. On top of that, she has a music background in piano, 7th grade, and graduated from the Associated Broad of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Hazel’s 3D texture sculpture entitled ‘The Spiral Aloe’ was exhibited at the LASALLE Open House 2019 under the exhibition Art and Design. My practice includes a range of mediums; painting, drawing, digital art, photography and to name a few. It imbued by people, event and by my surrounding environment which mostly is reflective of my life. I feel that both life and people are complicated yet related. I see everything as interconnected. Therefore, my approach to creating art is like putting together a puzzle of a structure or foundation of who we are, intimately. I am primarily in painting and digital art. I believe art can have such a tremendous effect on our emotional well-being, and I am really passionate about how art can uplift and inspire.
