Beliefs such as pseudoscience —which is a finding or a system of explanation that is presented as science but doesn’t stand under scientific scrutiny — are increasingly pervasive, especially with the ever-growing prevalence of technology and social media. This phenomenon has caused many impressionable youths to be overly reliant on these pseudosciences (e.g. astrology, Meyers-Briggs personality tests (MBTI), extrasensory perception, etc.) to explain events in their lives. As such, many people begin to justify actions or make decisions based on the ‘tellings’ or predictions of such pseudosciences, even if they are vague, leading people to blame external factors for their actions, both good and bad. On the contrary, what if we begin to take such pseudosciences with a grain of salt? What if people realised the non-committal explanations that they believe are answers? Will we feel pressured to think for ourselves again? Or would we adapt and allow individualism to flourish once more?
