Kamolthip Pulkes
Kamolthip Pulkes (b. 2001) is a practising artist born and raised in Thailand, currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. Her passion for art began when she watched her sibling paint as a child and that passion bloomed, influencing her become an artist herself. Art would continue to provide refuge for her as she started to experience symptoms of mental illness. As a result, Pulkes' works encapsulate her experiences with mental illness which have taught her to be more resilient and more confident. She hopes that her art will empower those with similar condition and experiences to remain strong and bravely embrace themselves.

Give Yourself a Hug
Medium:
Masking tape and tissue paper
Dimension:
48cm (H) x 27cm (W) 83cm (hip)
Give Yourself a Hug aims to act as a reminder to anyone who cares about the feelings of others too much, forgetting to take necessary breaks to look after themselves. The experience of listening endlessly without expressing your own feelings can take a toll on the listener. Kamolthip, who was born and raised in Thailand, was taught that giving a garland to any adult who come into her life is a representation of love and respect. Throughout her life, she encountered many toxic adults but did not have a chance to speak up for herself. Now she recognises the need to listen to herself more rather than others to live a better life.
