Artist as Curator

Celeste Tan

Artist as Curator aims to expand the student’s artistic practise by encouraging them to push boundaries and explore new territories, namely the curating of shows. Curating requires care and sensitivity, since the artwork being dealt with is not necessarily the artist's own. Curating gives the students a new perspective within their personal practice and also in relation to the community and the society at large. In this course, the students will be introduced to the history of the curatorial by looking into various case studies which discuss curatorial discourse and artistic intervention. Students are also given the opportunity to work together to curate and manage the annual art show, One Night Only. This is a great opportunity for the students to hone skills such as managing a show, documentation and contextualising theories and methodology that was taught through the course. It is also great for fostering the spirit of teamwork and collaboration.
