In his work, Xiao Peng aims to include methods and research as a part of artistic practice to investigate social action in urban environments whose subcurrent addresses the politics between people and land. This process is negotiated through working with different art mediums such as drawing, painting, video, photography, documentation, archives, people and public spaces. A Mallet & A Ball (木槌与木球),  located at Central Singapore in Bishan, is an art project based on human relations. Rather than displacing its relational form, the work has taken up space at the Woodball field where it is currently home to a community of people who had built the site from 2005.
