Pei Chia's current practise works with the notion of abject and the grotesque body in contemporary art.
This work is titled The Grotesque Body. The act of applying makeup to the artist's grotesque self speaks of her identity as a woman embracing the unconventional form of the female body. The artist is performing for the camera, not for the audience. By interacting with the audience through the camera, she is subverting the male gaze by subscribing to the voyeuristic gaze of the camera.
