The Performative Body introduces students to the practice of performance art and using the body as a medium. Throughout history, performance art has been, and remains to be, one of the most contentious, controversial, and potent art forms in the art world. By resisting the elitism of traditional art, this art forms steps outside the classroom to rebel, and to escape categorization and containment. In a workshop class setting, the students are encouraged to explore different sets of performance art sensibilities and discourse both theoretically as well as practically. Students are encouraged to share ideas, engage in critiques and collaborate on performance strategies and tools throughout this module. The aim is to show performative works that are evocative, intelligent and that communicates introspection as well as study the society around them.
